The owner/developer of the property wanted to lighten and open the dark one-story rancher that sat on a 2-acre site overlooking the vineyards of the Suisin Valley. He wanted a weekend place that he could share with his family of four and grandparents who love to garden.

We removed a sunken smoking room and opened the entry so that the views of the valley were evident from the front door, added clearstory windows to one side of the roof structure to lighten a combined kitchen, dining, and living space. With minimal expansion, we also added wider circulation and access to private patios from all bedrooms to connect each space with nature and views.

The main living area also features an open corner with doors that can be completely retracted to connect it with the primary outdoor space.
