We have completed a new fire station at San Francisco International Airport. The project includes a LEED® Gold firehouse, new security checkpoint, and state of the art training center. At the heart of the design is an elevated command and control ‘watch’ room with views of the airfield. The design balances landside (open to the public) and airside (security clearance required) operations along with a host of key stakeholder requirements including SFO, FAA, TSA, SFFD, and SFPD. The project is LEED Gold v4 certified, which was extremely tough given the harsh environment and location (natural ventilation was not an option). The building entry fronts US 101, and the apparatus bay doors open directly to the airfield.
